Wetlands take new life

Perhaps Villawood’s greatest display of innovative public artwork has recently been installed as part of the second major wetland body at Marriott Waters in Lyndhurst.

The series of giant bird-like sculptures follows the theme of a ‘Pelican Lifecycle’ which incorporates a series of sculptures depicting the various phases of a pelican’s life including; sitting on an egg, hatched, feeding, learning to fly and catching a fish.

In addition to this cycle, the most recent additions to the extensive wetlands at Marriott Waters include sculptural brolgas, other pelicans as well as an eagle in flight. Designed and created by renowned artist Folko Kooper, the latest additions to Marriott Waters complement the extensive water bodies meandering throughout the community, which will eventually comprise over 27 hectares of wetlands and parks.
